Membership Educational Performance Criteria

The following is deemed as the "minimum" educational performance standards for Professional Certification and Membership in the Association of Registered Clinical Hypnotherapists (ARCH)

Registered Clinical Hypnotherapists / Registered Clinical Hypnosis Practitioner   
  • Ability to identify the client's suggestibility
  • Ability to conduct both physical and instrumental tests of suggestibility
  • Knowledge of proper client interviewing and intake skills
  • Knowledge of Rapport Building Skills
  • Knowledge of and ability to overcome misconceptions and myths about hypnosis
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Concepts of the Mind
  • Ability to facilitate hypnosis and terminate hypnosis
  • Ability to teach Self-Hypnosis
  • Understanding of the usages and limitations of hypnosis
  • Ability to determine the best induction to facilitate hypnosis
  • Ability to utilize several different genre of deepening techniques
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize ideomotor response
  • Protocol and Ability to conduct a Smoking Cessation Programme
  • Protocol and Ability to conduct a Weight Management Programme
  • Protocol and Ability to conduct a Stress Management Programme
  • Protocol and Ability to effectively use imagery and visualization
  • Protocol and Ability to conduct Regression
  • Knowledge of protocols to reduce symptoms of generalize mental problems, such as: depression,            anxiety, stress, etc.
  • Knowledge of protocols to assist the client in over-coming unwanted behaviours, such as: generalize        insomnia, nail biting, etc.
  • Protocol Knowledge and ability to work with advanced techniques, such as: Parts Mediation Therapy,      Secondary Gain Technique, Free Association, Gestalt Role Playing (Chair Therapy), etc.
  • Knowledge and ability to work with Pain Management Protocols
  • Knowledge and ability to work with simple phobias
  • Knowledge of Protocols such as: Circle Therapy
  • Knowledge of different approaches of Hypnosis including Ericksonian and Elman Techniques
  • Knowledge of the Legal Requirements in your Province
  • Knowledge of the protocol to deal with "Suicidal Ideation"
  • Knowledge of the protocol for proper client record keeping
  • Knowledge of Protocols such as: Anchoring, Calibration, Reframing, Verbalization, etc.
  • Understanding and agreement with the ARCH Code of Ethics
  • Successfully complete the ARCH Certification Exam
  • Advanced Induction Skills utilizing techniques from different genres
  • Advanced Deepening Skills utilizing techniques from different genres
  • Advanced Pain Management/Hypnoanaestheia Skills
  • Advanced Skills in working with the different types of Smokers
  • Knowledge of and Ability to do a detailed Clinical Assessment
  • Protocol Knowledge and ability to identify the symptoms which define a mental problem, as oppose to a  mental disorder, as oppose to a mental illness
  • Ability to develop a Clinical Treatment Plan using the Four Stage Approach
  • Understanding and ability to work with clients using the Skilled Helper Protocols
  • Protocol Knowledge and ability to work with clients DSM diagnosed with Mood, Anxiety and Phobic          Disorders
  • Protocol Knowledge and ability to work with clients DSM diagnosed with Sexual and Gender Issues
  • Protocol Knowledge and ability to work with clients DSM diagnosed with Substance Addictions
  • Protocol Knowledge and ability to work with clients diagnosed with non-substance addictions
  • Protocol Knowledge and ability to work with clients DSM diagnosed with PTSD
  • Protocol Knowledge and ability to work with clients DSM diagnosed with an Eating Disorder
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Concepts of the Brain in relation to the Mind
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Concepts of the Body Syndromes
  • Protocol Knowledge and ability to work with advanced techniques, such as: Parts Mediation Therapy,      Secondary Gain Technique, Free Association, Gestalt Role Playing (Chair Therapy), etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Concepts foundational to Analytical Hypnotherapy: The Inner Child
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Concepts of Family of Origin in Hypnotherapy
  • Knowledge of Protocols such as: Anchoring, Calibration, Reframing, Verbalization, etc.
  • Successfully complete the ARCH Clinical Certification Exam

Registered Clinical Counselling-Hypnotherapists / Registered Clinical Counselling-Hypnosis Practitioner  

Ability to meet the requirements outlined for Registered Clinical Hypnotherapist above - plus the following:

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of Person-Centred Therapy for Hypnotherapists
  • Understanding of the Therapeutic Relationship including: the Safe and Effective use of Self, Therapeutic  Evaluation Process, and Termination.
  • Knowledge of fundamentals of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Hypnotherapists
  • Knowledge of Human Development & Family of Origin for Hypnotherapists
  • Knowledge of protocols for Communication and Conflict Resolution
  • Knowledge of protocols for Working With Couples using Hypnosis
  • In-depth ability to use the DSM for clinical assessment and treatment planning
  • In-depth knowledge of the Clinical Assessment Instruments and Protocols
  • Ability to do Effective Counselling-Hypnosis Treatment Planning
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of the Counselling-Hypnosis Process and Therapeutic Interventions
  • In-depth knowledge of protocols for successful Crisis Intervention
  • In-depth knowledge of protocols for successful Suicide Assessment and Prevention
  • In-depth knowledge of protocols for successful Grief and Loss Treatment and Support
  • In-depth knowledge of protocols for successful Addiction Treatment and Support
  • In-depth knowledge of protocols for successful Sexual Abuse Treatment and Support
  • In-depth knowledge of protocols for successful Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Treatment and Support
  • May be required to successfully write a Clinical Counselling-Hypnotherapist Certification Exam



Note:

Applicants Trained at a non-accredited Institute/School/Instructor must take an ARCH Accredited Clinical Hypnotherapy Upgrade program to join at Registered Clinical Hypnotherapy level. The Applicant must pass the required Competency Exam for the Professional Level applied for with a minimum score of 80%. A video of Client work may also be required, at the discretion of the Directors. A transcript of training will be required, including verification of Practicum hours (min.100 for RCH/RCHP, 400 for RCCH/RCCHP professional membership).

If the school or training institute is unable to provide you with a transcript, then you will be unable to prove the components of your training. 

Please note that ARCH does not accept "time-compressed intensive study courses" nor "correspondence/extension/video/e-learning (live-streaming without in-house practicum)/home study courses" for the above core requirement for Professional Level Membership. This form of instruction is only acceptable for CEH.
